The Confidence of Kindergarteners

Yesterday, this little guy from Kindergarten came running full speed into the office to see the school nurse for his "be good" pill. He is one of my favorites because he reminds me of how I imagine my husband as a 5 year old. This kid is always running, talks loudly, and says exactly what he thinks. The only difference is about 50 years.

So, I slowed him down, gave him a hug and reminded him to have a good day. The little guy looks at me with a big smile and announces at the same decibel as a jet plane taking off for flight, "I've had a good day today - ALL DAY!" It was 8:15 a.m. I love his confidence.

No sooner had I quit laughing when one of the Kindergarten teachers stopped me in the hall to tell me about one of her students. She has a child who is Vietnamese. His parents are very supportive - but you wouldn't say they have a great command of the English language. When the teacher called the parents the day before to let them know how their little sunshine had been acting, they assured the teacher that the child was "on punishment."

The next morning, there was a note of apology from the parents and this.

I'm sure they meant to have him swear to be good but something got lost in translation. Still, it speaks of confidence.

But nothing speaks of confidence quite like this Kindergartener's (future ex-wife of someone) writing.

Ahhh... To have that kind of confidence again. Now I've got to check out this classroom. I have no idea what this teacher is teaching in there.

Invented spelling is my favorite. Thanks for sharing, Beth, and have a great Sunday.

That's priceless!

I hope the kid is talking about riding his bike! :)

It's funny how fluent you become reading the written word of Kinder's!

Only a movie - Invented spelling always reminds me of those t-shirts that said "Huked on foniks werked for me." Have a great Sunday, too.

Rene - You are the master! And I'll bet you could read it upside down, too.

The emphatic writing of the Vietnamese kid kind of broke my heart a little! I hope he is okay. I believe that he is GOOD!!

This made me LAUGH! Those crazy K people. I had a bunch of this kind of writing that was given to me in the form of Christmas/We Miss You cards in December, but I've misplaced them. (okay, fine. I threw them away. But only because I was tired of vacuuming glitter up off my living room floor.) (okay, fine. *I* wasn't vacuuming up glitter because I was officially still recovering from a C-section. So my husband got tired of vacuuming up glitter.) (the point is: mamas don't let their babies grow up to overuse glitter, which just gets all stuck together and messy because mamas shouldn't let their babies grow up to overuse glue, too.)

I think I had a point with this comment, but now I've forgotten what it was.
