There is one less deranged bird in the world but please don't call me Ozzy

bat

This morning, at the track, I noticed what appeared to be a bat flying around one of the light posts because I usually go running before the butt crack of dawn.  I like bats as long as they stay the hell away from me because they eat bugs.  If there is one thing you need to know about the south, it is that we have bugs.  Lots of bugs.  Anything that eats bugs is cool in my book as long as that said thing stays away from me.

Suddenly, the stupid bat swooped at my head.  Oddly, I had just been thinking about what I’d do if the bat tried to attack me – so I was prepared.  I grabbed the bat and flung it to the ground.

Only it wasn’t a bat.  It was a bird.  Apparently a deranged bird.

I guess we could say he isn’t having a dead bird good Monday.

Hope your Monday is better.

This is why I'm not a runner. Or a bird, thank God.

LMAO Beth! You got me on this one! I'm a bird lover, but I just burst out laughing when I read the "punch line" as it caught me so off guard... presumably, just like the bird caught you!
Oh my!

This just proves to be another excuse for me not running. I may end up killing a bird, lol

Birds freak me out almost as much as bats. Ick. Good job taking the bugger down.

What are the odds?
PS
Pretty good skills, catching a bird bare handed!

Those are some very good pre-butt crack reflexes you have!

You're a better woman than me. I'd have just screamed bloody murder and jumped up and down.

'Cause I'm all masculine like that.

Geez dude! Although, Darsden will likely freak out because she's a bird-lover - you should know that I will stand by you. Everybody knows that birds are smelly, no good, flying rodents. They'd kill you if they could.

You did the right thing.

I never pictured you as the type of a person who would flip the bird! hahaha

DAMN YOU, OTIN, YOU BEAT ME TO THAT PUNCH LINE!!!

Anyway, Beth, good for you for kicking the presumed-bat's ass. Sure, it turned out to be a sparrow or something, but you didn't know that when you engaged it in battle.

You rock.

One day hubby and I were riding our bikes on the bike trails and a bird proceeded to zoom and attack hubby's head, hubby kept riding and swung his baseball cap at the bird, and the bird continued like it was trying to get his attention. That bird only wanted hubby. Didn't bother anyone else. I was laughing so hard I could hardly peddle and some onlookers were laughing and watching too.

You took down a bird? Holy crap! Was it the Bluebird of Happiness? Because if so, you're screwed.

I'm with you. Anything that eats bugs is a friend of mine. I include spiders in that group, though I guess one could argue they were bugs as well.

You have to be prepared, I say. That bird had no business attacking you; should have read your memo about keeping all his hands-wings to himself/itself,and not to bother anybody. You're the ruler-maker after all.

Just when we thought running was hard enough, now you have to dodge birds as well. That's just wrong.

I am assuming that at this stage in your exercise, your hair was dripping with sweat and looking like a worm farm?

I can identify with this too. One of the girls I work with was attacked while walking on MT. Hood by a bat.

Ah! You are a brave, brave person. And I love bats, too. Anything that eats mosquitoes is a hero.

Ahhh.... I bet you felt awful for the bird. I hate it when something like this happens. I do not have it in me to end their misery with a shovel.
