A good friend of mine has recently started running. She has made a lot of progress in a short amount of time and I'm really proud of her! On several of our morning meetings at a local track, she has talked about a Boot Camp exercise class that she has participated in.
Being
a glutton for punishment up for a challenge, I decided I’d join her to see what this class was all about. Besides, I need to work on something besides obsessively running.
I picked out my clothes and set my alarm for 4:45 a.m. so I could be at the gym in time for the 5:15 a.m. class. And this is
grounds for commitment
to an insane asylum because I’m on my summer break.
As usual, I woke up way before the alarm.
After arriving at the gym (and signing all the paperwork to try out the gym as a guest), we headed down to the
gallows gym only to be informed that the teacher had a sick child and the class was cancelled.
Well, pfffshht!
So, we tried a quick round of basketball. It was brutal reminder of why I was the team benchwarmer.
I think I’ll have Nutella for breakfast now.

I'm sorry....did you say 4:45???
Oh, Jules.... I know it... I'm "ridonkulus"!
Back when I was working I could do the 4:45 easy peasy. Now? No way. And then to run? No way. You have my utmost admiration.
I wouldn't even get up at 4:45 if The Hoff was waiting for me downstairs, naked.
I can get up that early, but locomotion at that hour is quite another thing.
Once upon a time, way before kids, I used to get to gym that early... and pay a woman to torture me... what was I thinking? Oh yeah, I looked good naked and wanted to stay that way... oh well.
I admire your ambition. In the meantime, I'll be in bed until 9 thankyouverymuch!
No, but seriously - that's awesome!
You are awesome Beth. I get up early too, even in summer. But not quite that early ; -)
That sucks that you didn't actually get to go. Do you plan on giving it another try? I hear those classes are great.
445 am and you got up way before the alarm...just shaking my head...stinks that the class was cancelled....
Well, at least you got a workout in nonetheless. Anything for the cause of health.
I knew I liked you, but after the Nutelly comment, I think I love you! ;-)
Last summer I drove 40+ miles to do a boot camp with my sister in law and her neighbors. I don't know what got into me, why I would do this to myself or my car's mileage. Also, on Day 2 I totally threw up behind the neighborhood pool house (possibly I should have eaten an apple and some carrot sticks before boot camp, not a buffalo chicken sandwich and fries at Chili's).
Then in August we joined a swanky gym and in November, right before Thanksgiving, I decided to do join a weight loss team. The coach on it was the boyfriend of one of my assistant principals, and there were a few times I had to say "Shhh!" to him, because there are just some things you don't need to know about your coworkers, particularly if they're in charge of you.
In the end, these 2 experiences taught me (a) not to eat Chili's buffalo chicken sandwiches/fries before a work out and (b) treadmills are nice, but only in 40 minute segments, without doing arm weights, or hearing about the latest relationship issues of people in charge of me.
Also, I just want you to know: I almost choked on this piece of cheese I'm eating when I saw 4:45 am. That's dedication. (Or you're crazy.) (I'm going to go with dedicated, but slightly crazy. :-)
My comment was gobbled by gremlins. I had said that if I had a conspirator or partner in crime, I could be persuaded into going to such a thing at 4:45. I don't mind waking up early. xo
I have known people who do these early morning boot camp thingees. Let me just say that I think Nutella is a perfectly reasonable alternative...
Maureen nearly stole my comment. The only sane thing I read was the last line.
Is this the Sergent's Program? I looked into that at one point, but there was too much running for me (bad knees, don't run, no alternative exercise, I asked). I do admire your efforts, though. And 4:45 is fine, because you get to come home, shower and NAP!
4:45 am? Really? I think I'd rather be fat and well rested.
Glad I am not the only one crazy enough to get up so early to exercise!
running is for wimps. It takes a brave soul to sit it out.

there is absolutely nothing that would inspire me to get up at 4:45 especially not a class where I need to exert myself. Besides don't studies show that a lot of sleep helps prevent weight gain???
holy crap....4:45 a.m.! That's commitment! Do you think you're going to do it again, even though you didn't do the class you so would have. Getting there is half the battle!
If I got up in the middle of the night like that for a class, that teacher had better be there - sick kid or not!
Come over to The Jason Show and help me fight cancer today. I'll show you my bare chest if you do.
I can't do anything at 4:45am except maybe eat a jar of Nutella.
:-)

voluntarily waking that early is unfathomable to me. and to exercise? doubly unfathomable. Perhaps, that's why I maintain a constant gooey panda bear shape.
4:45!!!!
Have mercy!
Despite all evidence to your lack of sanity, I'm so impressed and inspired by you. .....because I LOVE Nutella! :-)
Well now you've made me see what I can do at 4:30 am when I wake up daily...since I hit my 40's, I don't sleep past that...So now I guess it's exercise time...ugh...no, you're right...it's all about the Nutella...
I don't understand morning people, or maybe they don't understand me...either way I wish there was a law that said no talking or fast motion before noon. It's just wrong. '~) I hope you enjoyed the Nutella.
I was eating Backyard Barbeque potato chips. But the good ones! Not the generic ones! Kettle Brand.
You indeed earned that Nutella.
I know you must be busy but I've missed you!
